I'm wondering what will be the effect of combining the Firearms Acts and moreover, merging sporting rifles with shotguns...does this mean s2 regulations for sporting rifles or s1 regulations for shotguns?

Define sporting rifle???

Does this mean 2 different types of FAC for rifles/handguns? If one hasn't a handgun or dedicated LR target rifle...could one become caught out?

Not that I'm aware of, but I'm not clear of their intentions, ovenpaa.

They are hardly thinking about easing the law???

Shotgun shooters may have to install BS cabinets to store slabs of cartridges.

Shotgun users may have to prove good reason.

Variations for each additinal shotgun?

Can't see them getting away with a relaxation in the law as a function of the Cumbria enquiry.

Let's put it this way...someone has decided that these factors are in scope, they are considering all options, and there is a likelihood that the control framework surrounding the weapons used by Bird is to be strengthened rather than weakened.

Do you trust them to make sensible decisions?

Well one certificate to replace the current FAC/SGC/Explosives/RCA documents would simplify matters in that it would be a single document. Within it could be S1/S2/S5/S7 etc. (Yes I do know a couple of S5 people as well, there are more of them than people think) I cannot see that being so much of a problem. Now how to apply the law to the individual sections.. Variations applied to all sections.. Hmmm, 25 quid a throw to change a shotgun. Well the FEO's are hardly profit centres are they so extra revenue and reduced paperwork might just move closer to being profitable and give us a better service. I have to say at this point that my local team are always very prompt and give a stellar service so the only foreseeable improvement for them is biscuits with the cups of tea but other forces are apparently struggling.

There is an uproar in Scotland at the moment about some 10 year olds that have been issued SG Certificates. They are now calling for SG age limits to be brought into line with FAC limits.

Just an MP wanting to make a name for themselves as there has been no crime or breach of the law committed by these kids.

I dont believe for 1 minute these ten year old are walking about with these SG un supervised.
My gues is there parents are involved in the sport and obviuosly they have gone through the licencing procedure and the plod were happy to grant the certificates.
