I have a Black Gun in the cupboard and a choice of 55 and 62 grain bullets plus some 73 grain Bergers, plus some SP9, H4831SC, TR140, N140, N540, N550 and N560, oh and some Elcho 17.

I have not got measured my OAL yet however I would work on 2.260" from the magazine and as long as I can build for the Bergers to single feed them. Has anyone got any favourite loads I can start with given my current current powder and bullet holdings? They would be primed with CCI BR as that is all we have in small rifle primers in the house.

69 grain SMK TR140 loads? sign85

That is an option but not a bullet I have in the Shed at present.

Those Bergers are designed to be loaded to mag length, i.e. they are length tollerant

ENS - I wish I could find some load data for the TR140 to go with them, I am thinking of an absolute maximum load of 24.5 grains at 2.260" so I would work up from 23.0 grains very cautiously in .2 grain steps and see how things look. I would expect the .2 grain steps to give an increase of around 22fps and in an ideal world get to around 2950fps.

I think there is some development in order for those bullets, I will also be loading them for the boys rifle so we will have to compare notes.

Ovenpaa: Is this gun you mention an AR-15? If so what is it's twist rate. I've done quite a bit of load development for my two rifles over the years, one a 16 inch barrel and the other a full length barrel. I've found that what may shoot very well in one rifle doesn't particularly shoot well in the other because of the different twist rates. Also I have never used Berger bullets but I have used many different 55 and 62 grain bullets, who is the maker of the 55's and the 62's that you have?

I loaded up some for my cousin 55 gr v max and 27 gr of n140. Very full case and a drop tube was needed. still they were a compressed load. super accurate. I dont know what the velocity is... i guess not that high... but mustard on fox

I use the same bullet for Varmint hunting only I use 24.6grns of Hodgdon Varget. Super accurate and a bit cheaper than N140
