As a relative newcomer, please forgive me if this has been aired before, but hands up who finds it irritating that the media call brass casings? I own sveral editions of several reloading manuals, (one Scandanavian, all the others American), and they all talk of cases. Is there an explanation for this?

Errr ...
That's what they are. Brass is what you make trumpets out of.
And, colloquially, it's a loose term for a pile of used cases. But in reloading, precision in all things is a necessity for hitting the target and staying intact.
