Oomans: we're going to be in Los Angeles and Chicago for a fortnight very soon. Do any of our colonial cousins perchance know of any shooting ranges , ideally in or near Chicago, where a well behaved English badger might be welcome to turn up and chuck a bit of the old plumbum around in fine company ?

I'm really not sure, but I think you've picked two of the most anti-gun places you possibly could......!!!

Where in LA ?
I can point you to a fairly good gun shop down south of LA and if you want any more info, let me know. I have probably made 50 trips to the LA area in the past few years.

I'll be in Hawthorne - which I think is pretty much central LA - for a few days, then off to Chicago (Indian Lakes area) for about 8 days.

Hawthorne - that is just a couple of miles South East of LAX.
If you go West to the coast and find Manhattan Beach, driving down Manhattan Beach Blvd, about 100m before the end and where the pier starts, there is a Micro Brewery and Bar on the left - decent beer and food!
If you can get up to Santa Monica there is a great sea food restaurant on Ocean Avenue -

If Mrs Badger likes shopping there is always South Coast Plaza, about 40 miles South in Costa Mesa and Grant Brothers Gun shop just a couple of miles away from there! Drop her off and you can go visit!

We're there on our todd for business, popping over to Spacex in LA to tie a bit blue touch paper to a rocket, then off to Chicago to present a couple of papers at a conference,

The first two suggestions will be quite legitimate then ... especially if the company is paying.

Our bag is packed (touchpaper and matches in an air safe Otterbox) and we are on our way to Gatport Airwick to catch the iron bird. We'll let you know how we get on with Uncle Sam: we hear he's quite a nice chap.
