I am reading elsewhere of ITAR restrictions being placed on the export of chamber reamers from the USA without the necessary licence at USD260, has anyone else come across this?

This was posted up on an American forum earlier today so very recent. I just skimmed the PTG site but cannot see anything to confirm this but you never know....

MidwayUK when they updated their site removed all chamber reamers. I then looked at PTG to see if there was a reason behind it but everything seemed fine with PTG.

I considered buying some JIC but their postage was a bit steep for me to get what I wanted at this time.

We do have our own European alternative in the form of TRIEBEL Waffenwerkzeuge GmbH and ITAR are US Government regulations however I do wonder if we will see European restrictions on such items. My understanding is you can pay your USD260 for an exemption certificate for some items however this would appear to me to be a stealth tax for the USA and more to the point we are supposed to be on the same side so why is the USA constantly blocking an ITAR waiver for the UK?

I am of the opinion that the USA is becoming more 'Isolationist' and their government is using the ITAR regulations on more and more items relating to shooting activities under the guise of anti terrorism, thus making it more difficult to obtain items, unless you have the appropriate import/export licences I suppose.
One American on 6BR stated basically that he does not give a t*ss about other countries shooters and said that they should make their own reamers.
So is there anyone in the UK that does, or do we (the UK shooters) have to continually rely on the USA to provide them?

As Ovenpaa mentions, Triebel makes since 3 generations reamesrs of superior qualty for the whole german firearms industry. I know the firm since decades and their quality is outstanding..

They usually makes exactly what customer want and in short delays.

They make reamers with throat, but their speciality is separate throaters, which allow full flxibility in question of throat angles and lenghts.

They are not cheap, but quality and fast service is worth the price.

They edit a C.D (P.A.U.L.A) on all the calibres for which they have once buit a reamer.. In german but the pictures and sizes are a mine of information...Ovenpaa knows and can comment.

I can certainly vouch for the P.A.U.L.A CD - It gives the cartridge and chamber dimensions plus associated data and you can search by dimension which is handy if you are looking to build something very specific and are looking for a cartridge to suit.

Excuse the ignorance but why is a "Chamber Reamer" so special? Surely it is just a reamer of a specific pattern or shape but just happens to be of the dimensions required for a firearm.

If I was to ask a friend in the US - precision machining and machine tools, to make a reamer to a pattern without specifying the end use - except for finishing cylinders, would there be an issue?

I do agree however I am sure Matrix Churchill said the same a few years ago...
