NRA Section Replacement

After a lot of thought given to the NRA situation on the forum we have decided to keep the NRA section locked for the time being and create two new sections which hopefully will fill the gap left by the locked section. They are in the same area of the forum as the NRA section is and is respectively called "National Body General Discussion" and National Body News and Announcements. Heather from the NRA is going to keep us up to date about what is happening at the NRA and feel free to ask your questions / add your comments in her threads. She will be using the National Body News and Announcements section for this. If anyone out there from other national organisations would like to keep us up to date about your news then just ask and I will add you to the section as a section moderator.
The National Body General Discussion section is exactly that, a section for all of us to discuss the National Bodies and what they are up to.

Please bear in mind that this is an open forum and your posts can be read by all members. If you are in a position that can be compromised by what you are saying on here because someone takes offense and tells your colleagues or your sponsor and that in turn means you are being punished for your posts on here, think before you post!

Good idea but so sad you have to warn people about big brother watching over their shoulder.
Whoever thought that the NRA is supposed to represent us! Oh, they are, aren't they!!! sign01

It is unfortunately the world we live in.

I cannot emphasise it enough, please if you post and you are affiliated with the subject you are posting about, remember somebody may be lurking and that person may report you to the organisation in question with dire consequences.

Please stop this - it wasn't the NRA as I said on the other thread.

Are you speaking as a General Council member of the NRA or just as an interested party?

Not sure what you mean? I know what the situation was but I'm not involved in any way.

It has nothing to do with GC either.

Its just that the NRA is being slagged off for something which doesn't really have anything to do with them.

Karen,

Some crticism of the NRA is deserved, even if poorly put.

As an organisation it has a poor standing in some parts of the shooting community.

Any criticisms on this forum have not been directed at any individual, you in particular.

I know how carefully you have separated personal and professional knowlege and how concientious you are in preserving confidentiality.

Is is a road I tried to tread myself, wanting to hold discourse on the forum but having to hold back because, hopefully, I was a professional myself and loyalty to my employer came first.

The NRA is mistrusted and many areas, ex pistol shooters for instance, will never forgive 'The NRA' for the lack of support.

Those were old regimes and I sincerely hope that 'The NRA' gets it right from now on.

There were, and possibly still are, some employees to whom 'The NRA' is just another job. I include some senior management in this accusation, sadly. What these people don't realise is that, to some it is more than a job.

If Bisley falls, not just a shooting range will close. There are thousands of people in perifery occupations who will also suffer. There could, nay would, be global repercussions. That's how serious it is; ill concieved 'slagging off' and constant negative criticism, without thought and suggestion for a possible solution is to be abhorred.

Additionally, those politicians and others who would see us lose all the tools of our sport, whatever discipline, will be delighted. If 'The NRA' and the rest of us can't work positively together and stop doing our dirty washing in public we are doing their job for them.

The NRA has to work, it has to be more open and it has to be able to accept criticism and move on making use of the positive.

The NRA cannot go on being a retired Colonel (any Service branch Senior Officer) and University old boys club. Those days have gone.

For our part, the members, we have to give the current incumbents a chance and offer positive help and support.

Rant over. If anyone if offended by this, I can only say - if the cap fits!

Cheers everybody, I'm going to write my manifesto for General Council re-election!

And have a beer, the sun having now sunk below the yardarm

John well said, any organisation must be able to listen and accept critism if it is to function and improve its service to people.

Taking umbridge with individuals or groups of people because you dont like what they say is a recipe for disaster.

I was one of three shortlisted people for the shooting managers job at the NSRA wjen Geoff Doe retired. I applied because I felt the they too were losing touch and wanted to do something about it, I didn't get it but I tried :good:

That is your take on it which is entirely valid, other people's take is different and that is also valid.
