Fight or flight..intersting story
The powers that be always tell you to run away (as if many of us could) from a bad guy.
The story here puts an intersting perspective on it, one the do gooders, liberals and criminal lovers seem to overlook.
I doubt I would argue with Mr Ayoob he is one experienced officer...and there are some intersting points in the article.

Very interesting. :-P
Taken from another website in relation to that story;
Taken from another website in relation to that story;
You can learn several important lessons from this incident:
1 The criminal justice system often has its own agenda which leads them to treat good guys like bad guys (that's why we call it the criminal justice system);
2 A cell phone is a good thing to have in the car ("can you hear me now?")
3 When the prey flees, the predator pursues (which puts you & me on the horns of a dilemma, since the first objective in self defense is to avoid violence);
4 You can do everything right and still end up in the soup (Murphy's Law of Negotiating with Cannibals).

Intersating about point (1) - that's why we can never have a fair trial, especially when guns are involved. bigotry, prejudice and political dogma has made sure many a good man has ben punished for defending himself.
It should of course be the VICTIM justice service.
Also the fact that he was screwed because he used an "Assault Rifle" with full auto..
Maybe it is time we started using different names for our firearms.
I have already followed someone elses lead and we will now start to refer to our "Assault Rifle" courses as Modern Sporting Rifle or Modern Defensive Rifle. Shotguns can be Modern Sporting Shotgun rather than "tactical" and say "Modern sporting pistol" for semi auto handguns.
The anti's just love to visualise all sots of fantasies to get off on when black guns are used for defence or sport, maybe a name change is a good idea?

Re: Fight or flight..intersting story
Nice idea, but the legal definition of a firearm in the UK is "A firearm is "a lethal barrelled weapon of any description from which any shot, bullet or other missile can be discharged" (section 57 (1) Firearms Act 1968)", which isn't helpful.

Re: Fight or flight..intersting story
Yes but what I am getting at is the possibility that we start to refer to them by "other names" as in being PC, not that I can be accused of being PC...
Everything has a label these days, evrey nut job has to have a label to say WHY he/she did whatever, every kid in school who is unruly has a label.....
So why not try and de-demonise guns..I know the US situation is different but maybe if we all spoke in nice touchy feely terms about our firearms it would make the antis and ignorant media look more stupid (if that's possible) when they refer to your straight pull Colt or Saiga etc as an Assault Rifle.
Example: XYZ dealer has an M16 straight pull in .223 on his display..so why is it NOT "modern hunting /target rifle" on the ticket...start slowly but surely to educate the hard of thinking and downright biased?
And NO I have not had too much sunshine and cold beer

Re: Fight or flight..intersting story
In regards to the story, anyone saying that they were wrong to flee is obviously not taking into account the fact that we don't actually know what they would have done had he sat there and obeyed them, knives and guns in thier possession, whose to say had he not fled they still wouldnt have used them?

Good point. We're never going to make firearms akin to 'fluffy bunnies' but the less pejorative the descriptions are, the better.Chuck wrote:Yes but what I am getting at is the possibility that we start to refer to them by "other names" as in being PC, not that I can be accused of being PC...

BTW Chuck, I think the longer you're away from the UK and the more shooting you do, the more 'mellower' you get!

Tats: the year is young
Sandgroper, you may have a point.
the FBI say that you have LESS chance of injury if you fight back. Complying seems to increase the odds of you being hurt seemingly..after all how do you KNOW you will not be harmed.
Here's heart warming tale..pity she had to wait till second time around;

At least when she armed herself, she was prepared to use it and didn't hesitate.
