155 grn 308 load velocity with 26 inch barrel
Can any one help with a rough guide to the fps my 308 test load will be doing. Due to the perfect weather today the chrony stayed at home.
I had no signs of excess pressure with the following load.
155 grn SMK 2156 over 46.5 grn Varget CCI 200 large rifle primer in new Lapua cases COAL 2.85
I know all rifles and loads vary but just thought I would ask

Ql shows a compressed load, close to maximum with a velocity of 2926 fps.
Knowing barrel length and case capacity would help refine this prediction.

OK got the barrel length, that drops the velocity prediction to 2876fps.

Thank you for the info this was the highest load I made of my test batch lee manual said 47c for max so stopped short of that. Do not know case capacity.

46 gr Vhit N140 behind a 2156 out of RUAG cases with CCI Benchrest primers gave us 2950 ft'sec for the GB team a month ago, out of 30" match barrels.

Re: 155 grn 308 load velocity with 26 inch barrel
If I can get to 2850 > 2900 safe with good groups I will be happy, that will mean enough elevation on the scope to get to 1000M on occasion. But I am not going to push it and will not give up accuracy just for a bit more fps.

Fired this over a chrono today and it was doing 2849 so will play around + or - 46.5 to find a good accurate load,

Re: 155 grn 308 load velocity with 26 inch barrel
I do not have my notes to hand from when I had my 26" barrel, but I suspect that I was not getting much over 2700-2800fps.
Remember that whatever testing that you are doing at the moment is on reasonably cold days, you need to allow for your rounds to be able to cope with summer and unexpectedly hot days sitting out on the range.
Good luck with your testing,
DM

Dromia,
I am not familiar with / do not have that softwear, are you able to add 20 deg Celsius and see what difference that makes?
