scope for a Schmidt Rubin K31

#1 Post by AL8 »

I am using my K31 with open sights at the moment but plan to put a scope on a side mount on it. Any ideas, recommendations, for sale. It must not be bigger than 42mm lens, I will shoot to 600 yards max. Dont have a lot of money so secondhand I think is the way to go.
Thanks

just about any 1" tubed scope will do the job, you don't need large amounts of magnification, although you do need enough elevation, which most scopes will provide (or you can always shim the rings) try and avoid side focus or paralex adjustment as the knob will get in the way of the ejecting case, causing dings in the case. I have often looked at the Simmons WTC 1.5x5x20 as a perfect match for the rifle, I'm just too tight to spend out on one  for price I think you would be hard put to beat the simmons 1.5x5x32, my point being that at 600 yards you really don't need mega adjustment, you just need to be able to repeat-ably hold onto the target, and a 30-30 scope will do that just fine. Having said that mine has a 20x42 :P but thats so it can reach out to 1000yds

I have a sidemounted 6x42 Pecar on mine. It was bought second paw for £120 and is an astonishingly good scope for the money. I use it out to 600 yards.
