P14 Refurbishment

Hello all,
I have just picked up the most sorry looking P14 ever. I actually picked it up because it looked so scruffy and unwanted, just like that sad puppy no one wants. Nothing matches on this rifle, absolutely nothing. And it has more markings and numbers than a beat up Hell’s Angel. And few pieces are also missing. I have lofty ideals that some TLC might work and this rifle might even hit the target at 50 feet. Let’s see fingerscrossed

Now, what I need is the following:
1x bolt stop, complete set
1x rear sight ( there is one on ebxx at the moment) looking for something cheaper
1x front band screw ( its actually held with a nail ATM!!)

Any ideas where I can source these? That’s all to begin with I guess. Cleaning and head spacing are in order. BTW, is it safe to shoot this without the bolt stop? Are there any chance of the bolt flying backwards?

Regards,
Krish

We need pictures Krish!

I might have a rear sight, I will go and check in a few. It will also be worth speaking to Terry Abrams as he should have some bits in stock, always assuming he answers the 'phone..

When you say "rear sight" do you mean the whole sight, with base and adjustable peep-hole? Or just the peep-hole that rides over the "rails"? Sorry, my labels are probably wrong.

I have a peep-hole with a broken catch spring, the catch retain the peep-hole at set distances. You could always replace the spring, but at the time it was easier for me to get my hands on a brand new peep-hole

You can shoot the P14 without a bolt-stop, the bolt-stop does not lock the bolt upon firing, the bolt's locking lugs do that. The bolt-stop simply stops the bolt from being withdrawn from the rifle. So if you shoot it without, just be cafeful when you cycle the action

Dave, will post pictures if I could find my camera. Its gone walkabout since my son borrowed it.

Contacting Terry Abrahams is not an easy thing. I have tried so many times in the past on several other matters and its not easy to get hold of him. That's why I was trying my luck on the forums for other sources.

Tower75, Thanks for the bolt info. That's a relief. What i want is the actual sight unit itself, with the aperture eye piece and elevation ladder, like the one inthe pic.

Hmmm, methinks you ought to put a 7.62x54R barrel on that rifle and modify it accordingly...
