Don't worry Sandgroper, his first reaction was..."don't have the time"...

Lovely Christmas gift, just not this Christmas

....nor the inclination. Sorry, as much as I enjoy a good came of Chess I prefer traditional box wood.

That's a cool set 8-) - you could do a simpler version with just different calibers :-P

Like Ovenpaa, I prefer to play with a standard plain wood set - But I was given a beautiful Battle of Hastings set over 20 years ago, which unfortunately has always been packed away...one day I hope to get a big enough place to put it out on display...

How did you score lower than me on the 'grumpy old man test'...?...I'm still not happy about it

Saved again!

I prefer pieces with a nice solid feel to them. I have special edition LOTR chess set (http://www.graemeanthonypewter.com.au/p ... s.asp?ID=3 over 20 years old - not the cheap tat made after the movies!) and I love the solid feel and weight of the pieces.

I don't play as much as I used to, my son prefers Hnefatafl (King's Table) - :-P that could be an idea for his birthday or christmas - I make him his own Hnefatafl set.
