Another Day Cancelled :(

Yet again my club could not get the required number of bodies to shoot at Kingsbury this weekend, which is the 3rd time this year as I recall...

Bisley is a bit far to travel, but I really want to stretch the legs of my new Rem 700 - having only shot 20 something shots through it since I bought it, I'm itching to get back out with it and see what I can do... Does anyone know anywhere I could go local in the Midlands, either this weekend or the weekend after?

I'm a BASC member, but not NRA (if that makes any difference) and Bisley is just a little too far to travel (after petrol costs and booking a target I'd be well over £100 alone!)...

Can I shoot with another club at Kingsbury as an associate member without having to become a full member? (Offas Dyke perhaps?)...

Does anyone know what I can do? I'm chomping at the bit to get some lead down range and not just have an extremely expensive hidden away paper weight :(

You can shoot at clubs you are not a member of if it is a designated guest day, clubs are allowed 12 guest days per year.

Surely that is only applicable to non FAC holders? It is up to the club concerned if they allow visiting/non-member FAC-holders (subject to any other range qualifications that may be required, e.g. NRA/MOD competencies).

My understanding is if your club has a licence to shoot at an MoD range you can attend a meeting being held by another club at the same range and shoot, obviously you should pay range fees and take care as it can upset people but you are In theory well within your rights.

Well that is not how it is applied by the half dozen or so clubs I shoot with on MOD ranges (not barrack), you can only come as a guest if it is a designated guest day FAC holder or not. If it is a private range then what you say applies I suspect.

If I want to shoot locally (Newcastle upon Tyne area) then I can contact a few local clubs to join them. However, they only allow 1 or perhaps 2 visits to their shoots to non members/fac holders then you have to become a member if you wish to shoot anymore.
I have never known these clubs to have a 'guest day' where anyone without an FAC can come along and shoot under supervision.

Speak to the guys at Offas Dyke - they are really friendly and helpful - our club is affiliated to them, so we jump on some of their range days. In your sort of area too is Minsterley Range - again really nice place and friendly people.

If you are going to Minsterley give me a shout and if I can sneak some time out, I'll come and join you.

Tyne Valley had a couple of guest days last year at Ponteland with non-FAC holders shooting under 1:1 supervision. I'll ask Jonathan what's planned for this year. If it's not a guest day I'm sure that any FAC holder with an NRA certification card would be more than welcome to turn up and shoot.

Why aren't all the clubs liaising with each other to share range days as surely that would help and cut costs too?

Our club book roughly 8 shoots at Bisley a year. Everybody is given the dates and it is up to us to turn up. Nothing extra to pay unless a marker is used, then the cost is split. There has been as few as 3 turn up but it still goes ahead. Maybe we are lucky but we have never had to cancel a shoot.
Shame that other members are not supporting your club
