FAC Variation, slightly strange result?

Just got my FAC back from Durham, they rang me and requested I return it to have the 9mm lever release removed as it's been returned for repair/replacement or refund. For the free 1:1 variation I put another 9mm back on.
As it was going in I thought I may as well add a second .308 at the same time, asked for a bolt action .308 rifle and moderator and told them I didn't require any change to my existing ammo allowance.
Got it back this morning, the 9mm rifle/ammo/moderator are all back as an open slot but the .308 is different to my existing one. The original just says .308 bolt action rifle, the new empty slot says 7.62 x 51/.308 Win and they've added an additional ammo allowance worded the same for 400/300 (my .308 is 500/400).
So, is this normal? I would have expected it to just say .308 bolt action same as the first one?.

Looks like they're being sensible and emphasising that 7.62mm and .308W are regarded as the same calibre, negating the fuss (and prosecutions) that some police forces have made in the past over the issue.

I wouldnt say its normal , they should have done what you asked , but it looks like you have a better deal in getting more than you asked for . Result .

.308/7,62 x 51 is common on Durham (and other) FACs.
Not anything to worry about or criticise.

Thanks :)
Wasn't worried about it just wondered why it was different to the original.
Of course it means I would need a bigger/second ammo safe if I decided to go mad and load more .308

Saves them having to change it later. You can imagine how much work is generated by people who ask for a .308 bolt action with no extra ammo, and then see a nice straight-pull they want and it's marked 7.62 instead of .308 so that needs to come back into the office to be changed... and then when they get it they start shooting a lot more and want a bigger ammo allowance so that has to be done... Makes more sense for them to just be as broad, vague and generous as they can so as to minimize paperwork.

Staffs do the same, ie 5.56/.223 listed and 7.62/308 listed

I'm not sure if its standard procedure for West Mids, but I specifically asked for 5.56/.223 listed and 7.62/308 listed.

West Sussex say you have to specify! I asked for 7.62/.308 and 5.56/.223 but I had to choose! So I chose 7.62 as it lent me more choice (Mosin Nagant, Enfield 7.62 variant etc) and 5.56!
I have authority to purchase both .308 and 7.62 ammo, and .223 and 5.56!
