As a belated birthday present I've bought myself a Ross rifle! It's in good nick although I won't be able to shoot it for a fortnight (unless anyone is going to Bisley before 12 April?!)
Anyway, here are the pictures!
Cheers,
Dr. S.

Very nice
Why can't you shoot it for a fortnight ?

I'm not an NRA member so unless another forum member is shooting at Bisley I won't be able to use it (can't book a range etc). The best I could do is zero it, and I don't want to make the two hour round trip just to zero it!

Good choice.....looks like a good un too.....now you need to get the book "The Ross Rifle Story" by Phillips, Dupuis & Chadwick which is the most complete history of this very interesting rifle.
Mine is dated 1914. I can't quite make out the date on yours. Has the butt got any regimental markings, initials or letters and numbers that you can make out ? I might be able to trace a bit of it's history for you.

I think it's dated 1915, Targetman. Should the date be "1915" or just "15"?
As for other markings, it has "762" over the date and "J A" to the right of that. That's all I've seen so far! What would be the best way of seeing if there are any other markings? Would UV light work?
I might be able to get to Bisley on Saturday thanks to a very kind offer from BNZ, I'll report back if I shoot it!

Yeah, agreed.
Those Ross Rifles are dangerous, mate. Blow up and everything. They don't work when dirty either.
Give it to me, I'll dispose of it for you.
