Just finished my K98 at last!
Not a rifle for the purists out there but hopefully it should be good for the Battle Area ranges. I have been shooting it up till now with the battle sights and mostly staying in the black @400 yards so the inclusion of the scope should get me out a bit further.
Now I just have to wait for Landmark to allocate us some more range time. :cool2:

It looks very good, are you pleased with the work you have been doing and did you drill and tap the receiver yourself for the mount?

Thanks Dave,
Yes I drilled and tapped the receiver last night - christ it was hard! I had to start it off with a cobalt drill and then gradually open it up to 4.2mm. Tapping was a bit nerve wracking as well but with a little patience and a gentle touch it came good.

Fair play! I suppose in theory it should be reproofed now.... :bad:

I have never tried to drill and tap a receiver and imagine it is bloody hard, you tapped it M5 I assume, what make/type of taps did you use? I have had to resort to drilling 4.5mm before and using taps designed for stainless on one rather hard piece of material.

I used Swiss Tech cobalt drills and Swiss Tech 'Orange ring' tap (for use on titanium alloys) both of which we had lying around at work!. I have found , by trial and lots of error, that good old fashioned spit seems to be the best lubricant/cutting fluid for hard materials-does tend to smell a bit when it gets warm thou. smile2

Looks a proper job well done.... :good:

Did you manage to open out the rings without any trouble fingerscrossed

Opening up the rings was a pig of a job! Luckily I have a supplier who is a very talented old school machinist who likes a challenge and he did a great job on them.
