Mad Minute with an Enfield

Good Afternoon Everyone,
On a forum I frequent often dedicated to historic military arms preservation the topic of the mad minute has been discussed. No one on this forum is really sure just how many aimed shots were fired in a mad minute, numbers everyone is quoting of the internet the figure ranges from 15 to 40 rounds per minute. I thought I would ask some people who may actually know as this history is a little closer to home here, just how many shots were fired in the famous Mad minute? I'm sure someone knows and if you can quote the source that would be wonderful, even if it's grandpa.

I believe it was 38 aimed shots into a 36" target at 300yds in one minute, by Sergeant Instructor Alfred Snoxall. So
Wikipedia says, anyway.
By the way, does anyone know why the NRA bans the Mad Minute by limiting shooters to max 15 rounds in one minute at Bisley unless they have special permission?

Probably risk of wobbling all over the show and shooting somebody waiting for a hotdog.

I have tried it in the past and shot comps that call for ten aimed shots from sitting or kneeling with a mandatory reload at some point. Even the ten shots is not easy at 100 yards. Polished and nickel plated striper clips make life a lot easier.

I've put 16 on a figure 11 at 100 yards in a minute with my No. 4 but as ovenpaa says it is not easy. It still amazes me that anyone could get off well over twice that many in the same amount of time.

I've done it before now, using the grasping the bolt and pulling the trigger with middle finger trick and got to 22 rounds in a minute, was done for a demonstration video for a school talk, but sadly video went with my old laptop, it took quite a bit of practice which was only possible by practising with a de-activated SMLE

Could be quite possible using our AIA Enfield: it's in 7.62x39 and will *allegedly* take a 75 round AKM drum magazine...

Even with a drum mag you have to be going some to take an aimed shot every 1.5 seconds and keep the rate up for a minute.
