GM3 in 44 Special - any load data?

#1 Post by Flanker »

I've started reloading 44 Magnums using GM3 and 200gr lead heads. Seems to work OK, I'm measuring powder with Lee dipper 0.7, seems to give about 5.3 gr on my Lee scale. I've got some 44 Spl brass and wondered about loading some using the 0.5 dipper. Any thoughts? Or any data for GM3 in 44Spl?

GM3 - never heard of it, who makes it?

Edit - Found it http://www.nobelsport.it/public/pages/E ... migliaID=0

but no load data for 44 Special.

Nobelsport. It's a shotgun powder originally I think but apparently has been getting used in recent years for loading pistol caliber. It's exceedingly cheap and quite effective.

Ah, I see you've got there already :good:

Isn't Nobelsport Vectan? I read reports recently of Vectan powder prices being raised quite significantly.

I use Vectan AS, £18 PER lb so plenty room for price rise and it will still be cheaper than Unique.

I was using 6grns with the 200 gn bullets but have increased this to 6.5 gns to give em plenty poke.

I got a pound of GM3 to get started and it seems fine.
Is there more data available for the Vectan AS?

Some load data here, handy even if they do not show the 44 Special

EDIT - GM3 and AS are not listed by Quickload either...

We used quite a lot in our 44 Magnum 9.8 grs with 240 -260 lead bullets. We had a 190 grs bullets due to a mistake of my brother while making a nine mm moulds ,it was so unpopular that he opened up the cavity to 45. Recoil was very mild I cannot recall the loads tested.
