What would be nice in the interim is a simple live graphic on the website which shows every single lane on a given range and whether it's been booked or not. Blank out lanes being used as safety separation. I'm sure that could easily be knocked up in Flash or something similar.
Have that viewable for up to a week in advance - it's not quite online booking a la hotels, but it's definitely a step forwards and would help cancel out the aimless conversations Individual mentions.
