Morning all
I have just read on a US forum that Loctite 638 can be used to glue scope blocks to a barrel on a .22 to fit a long tube style of scope . Now this sounds like it may be woth a try . Has any one ever attempted anything along these lines before and what was the outcome of it ?
Iam up for trying it out , as I have all the parts needed , the glue is on order .
I will keep you updated .

This is much cheaper and is weatherproof:

The super-glues I have used are not weatherproof - dunno about 638 though.....

Dave,
Loctite #638 is also named 'Blocpress' and the name says it all.
Most used for all kinds of industrial glueings, for instanc fixing bearings in their housings.
Allow a certain clearance between parts to be assembled.
Can also be used for screw permanent threadlock and, for me, present certain advantages over Loctite #268 or270 for that puspose.
When parts to be glued are of closer fit, Loctite #603 possess almost same capacities as 638 does for larger clearances.

We use a range of loctite products for various engineering projects, 242, 270, 272, 568, 636, 638...
Found them all excellent. The only comment I would make about 638 is that is it rather permanent, unless you can cook it for a period, and my concern would be regarding the potential side effects on the barrel, if you needed to remove the blocks.
I'm sure you know to get the bits clean! I also wonder whether it can attach to blueing?
I've used 638 extensively to glue mild steel to stainless, and then placed the joint underground - the last I did are still underground after > 12 months, no sign of "issues" yet.
Clearances wise, I am aware that this needs to be right, as RGC says, above. I would ask Henkel, as I have found the guys at henkel technical rather knowledgeable. their phone number, from their website is, 01442 278100.
