Good day , has any one got a pet reload for a 7 mm rum before I start playing? Have run thro some remington factory 140 gr and they seemed ok at short to medium range but havent won the lottery yet so need to reload . Looking for a round that will carry out to about a 1000 on paper and also one for deer . I am the limiting factor though eyes not what they used to be . Thankyou

If you haven't won the lottery I wouldn't reload either!!!! The chairman of our club has one, a hundred and odd gns of powder per round.......

I was on my own in the Butts many years ago when someone was shooting a 300RUM from the 1200y point, the bullets came in like express trains, a scary experience and I was behind a concrete and earth banked wall.

Rarden rounds are a little like that, I recall them ripping the air asunder in flights of three just a few feet above my head. Thankfully the gunner was spot on, keeping them falling 50 or so yards ahead throughout the assault. Reminds me of a phrase from the Vikyngr saga describing Eric Bloodaxe's archery at the battle of Jorvic in 954: "Wound bees flew. The wolves rejoiced."

I also remember being in the butts again for a club shoot either at 100 or 200 yards, I was on frame 12 and the first shot took half the width of the 6x3 upright out, it just shattered into a thousand bits peppering the area with splinters of wood. Crikey I thought as dived for cover.... I radioed back to say it was hard to stick a marker in a hole larger than a good sized conker and more to the point WTF was being shot! No answer came back and a few minutes later another significant section of frame disappeared.

It was a black powder rifle of some form.

I hope I wouldn't be that bad ! I don't think my eyes have gone that far !! :-)

It is a bit excessive with out a moderator I must admit but will run out fairly flat compared to someso thought would give it a go for a while then when the throats gone if its not what I anticipated have it rebarreled for maybe a 300 win mag ? Time will tell I suppose , thanks for comments though will bear in mind cus you don't always know what happens at the other end unless u get the feed back . Cheers

It is not a bad thing, personally I was impressed/slightly shocked at the speed and power the round came in with. They are flat shooting, accurate and quite capable out to a mile on a good day, barrel wear is always going to be a consideration with such a thing but as you say, you can always rebarrel to 300WM if you wish. What twist is the barrel and have you considered going heavier than the 140's?

I like the 7mm and I like rum but the two of them together is a bit ott for me. :roll:

Sorry for delay , just over one in nine twist . Sierra reckon I might be able to get the new smk's to work in it ( even tho they rec 1:8 ) provided I push em fast . That would be based upon a Very gradual increase in powder as I have no intention of rushing anything and being foolish . Have u a suggested wt of head to start on ? The only reason I used the 140 was the availability of factory , no other reason for the selection , Ian

With the 1:9ish you could look at the Berger 180 range, they are pricey but do a very good job..
