Just wondering, the kit monster slumbers, whether any of you have a torque wrench on the bench for your riflesmithing needs: what you'd recommend?

I don't have one on the bench, but keep one in my firing-point toolbox (or rather, pencil case). It is the cheap and cheerful Anschutz one, so not really suitable for serious 'smithing. In the photo, just under the orange key set:

looks right, would you buy another one? I suppose repeatability and accuracy are what's in my mind.

I have a 1/4" in/lbs torque wrench (From a well known American tool supplier) in calibration, backed off ready to use. it certainly does not follow me to the range but is handy for bedding and 'scope rings/mounts.

I seem to remember Laurie Holland commenting on the impact different torque settings had on the bedding screws of maybe a Savage, he spent some time fine tuning to find the optimum torque and it did make a difference.

Just remember a torque wrench is only ever as good as it's last calibration whether it be a cheapo £5 one or a top dollar shiny yummy one!
