K98 headspace

#1 Post by Meaty »

Morning,
Does anyone know of anywhere in the Norfolk area were I could get the headspace checked on my K98? I have only just brought it and everything looks mechanically sound but I would like to get the above checked for my own peace-of-mind.
Thanks.

Hi mate,

Any good local RFD will happily do this for you, for a small charge, or perhaps nothing if you use them regularly!

Alternatively, tie it to a tree and pull the trigger with a long piece of string..if it doesn't disappear in a cloud of walnut splinters and shrapnel,it's good to go!......or on second thoughts....perhaps use an RFD!!!

Cheers, John.

Thanks for the pearl of wisdom
I have been shooting it a bit, as can be seen in the little linky below,
(hope the link works-I aint very good at this computer trickery!)
All seems ok but I just have this nagging doubt in the back of my mind-maybe I am just being over cautious. I had checked the fired rounds and there are no real signs of the cases stretching or separating.

Hi mate,

Thats a very nice looking K98, if the stocks anything to go by, shes a minter!...if the head space is praying on your mind though, get it checked over, like I said free or minimal charge from any good RFD.

Cheers, John.

Thanks for your help folks-I must try and sus out how to post things properly
Had a chat with my local RFD this morning and he is going to borrow some gauges and check it out for me! The K98 is from Chris at C&G and does look very pretty, but has a couple of mis-matched numbers courtesy of the Russians I think. It started life as a 1944 JP Sauer.

Off to Newark in the morning to see if I can get any reloading goodies for it :good:

Hi,

C & G have some very nice rifles don't they.....I was very tempted by a .30-06 1903 A4 Sniper rifle they had for sale a while back...drool!

If your K98 came from them, I am sure it will have been thoroughly checked over and head spaced before sale.

Cheers, John.

Check list before next shoot;
K98 checked over and the headspace is fine-no more concerns on that front then :good:
LSR mount is being machined as I type so that it will accommodate the larger tube of the scope,
Scope is all cleaned and polished,
I am installing the mount to the rifle on Saturday,
Light strike problems now sorted (new firing pin spring)
New dies and brass etc brought,

Just got an email saying that the Robins Lodge shoot (Stanta complex) has been cancelled with no alternative dates ****
Why is it that plans always go t*** up
