As above I have recently got hold of some of dodgyrog's boolits and I'm looking for a load to use in my Citadel Martini Enfield preferably using Vit N140, I have trawled the Internet as well as any literature I have and have come up against a brick wall. My aim is to get as close as possible the charicteristics of the mk V1 round.
Any help would be appreciated

So what velocity are you looking for? 1900-2000 fps

How good a throat fit do have with that bullet?

If I were you I'd go for a slower powder like N160 or 4350. Start at say 40 gns with N160 up to 45 depending on case capacity and 35 to 40 with IMR 4350

I'd try the starting load for the equivalent weight jacketed bullet and work up from there.
I'd also recommend you have a look at using Accurate 5744 powder.

Just found my N140 notes 30 to 36 gns.

Work up all loads in 1/2 grain increments.

With cast at the higher velocities the slower powders work better generally speaking as the boolit is well supported by the rifling by the time peak pressure is reached.

Good throat fit is essential.

Thanks for your input guys, Adam I'll try the N140 for now and get some slower powder for the future, Rog I'll let you know how I get on with the boolits with any luck I'll be trying them on Friday.

He wants N140 loads as he's just bought a load of repackaged powder...... I suppose one black, bin bag full could be classed as "repackaged"!!!!

But seriously it is in correct powder containers all labeled up, ill be giving it a go tomorrow .223 and .303

I would consider slow burning shotgun powders,you can get very accurate loads ,we did not try them in 303 but sure they did perform in 6,5x55 and 308 W

Here we go then, tried the .303 loads today 33gr of N140 performed great at 300 yds I set my sights to 300 9 out of 10 rds on the target with even a couple of bulls the one that missed was caused by the sight moving back due to recoil, speaking of which was mild in comparison to the 174gr factory loads, so happy days as far as im concerned.
I also tried them in my No1 Mk3 they worked ok but I had to aim at the top of the target.

I don't think it's slower powder that you want!
