Idea for Match

#1 Post by EagerNoSkill »

Hi all - had an idea for a fun shoot that allows members of all categories and interests to have a go (probably not original but bear with me)

Key Criteria for me1. Lots of shooting
2. Fun, fun, fun
3. Time to talk with fellow competitors
4. Comparative criteria to allow fair competition and related bragging and dissing rights
5. Lots of people
6. Cheap - use Mil surplus or lead or all that non -special brass or even finish that can of powder / primers you dont really have a use for

So I was thinking of a ZOMBIE SANDBAG SHOOT
Sandbags are a standard issue item for infantry man. They are effective and field expedient cover.
Should a Zombie Outbreak occur you will be forced to use whatever is handy :-) - Sandbag repilcates a barricade and / or window sill

QUICK RULES
1. No Black Powder (speed of shooting)
2. Must be a very close replica of a firearm used in one of the following conflicts - preferably standard issue or generally accepted variant
* WWI : 303 / German mausers / Ross / Springfield
* WWII : 303 / German rifles / Garand / 6.5 Finnish / Russian Nagants
* Korean / Malaysian : German rifles / Garand / Nagants
* Vietnam : M16 / Granad / Russian Bolts / Ak copies
* Falklands / African Mercenary Conflicts : FAL
* IRAQ 1 / IRAQ 2 : M16 / M40 equivalent
* Afghanistan : M16 / M40 equivalent
and of course
* The Food / Survival War : * 22 LR / Pistol carbines Lever - trust me they can hit at those distances

3. All shooting will occur prone from a sandbag on the firing point.
4. Time for 5 shots : Pull throughs have 45 sec for 5 shots / Bolts and other 60 Seconds
5. Ideal is use of OPEN sights but seperate category for OPTICS will be allowed
6. Same target will be used at all distances.
7. Simple 5 / 4 / 3 / 2 /1 point scoring MAX = 45

Now frankly somewhere in that list you gun will fit in!!! :grin:

C. COURSE OF FIRE
1. Course of fire shoot over 3 stages at 100 / 200 / 300 yards
- You will be allowed 3 sighters at 100 - no more!
2. Each shooter has 45/60 seconds to fire 5 shots at a target
- Targets are dropped at end of 5 shots and scored
3. Repeated by the number of shooter on firing point (2 or 3)
- You can reload and adjust sights whilst other shooters merrily miss
- The barrels have some time to cool
4. This will be done 3 times per distance giving 15 shots at each distance
5. Move back and repeat at 200 / 300
7. Total course of fire with a rifle : 45

D. OTHER GUIDELINES
1. The assessment of the rifle criteria will be done by a small quorum of experienced shooters and collectors - fair play principles
2. Dictator Rules apply : Final decision is Match Director :twisted:
3. You may fire up to 2 Rifles as long as the slots allow us to fill it.
4. You may be expected to share you rifle (ammo cost to be covered by user) for those not in possession of an allowable rifle.
5. Will have a Zombie Culling Champ for each Category of War / Sight Type
6. Prizes : Bragging rights only : costs to a minimum for all shooters
- no prizes for few - all play for same purpose fun!
6. On certain ranges - we may be able to run 2 or even 3 slots concurrently : 100 & 200 : 200 and 300 allowing for rapid movement of shooters and more shooting :0037: :0037:

Rough I know ... but give it a thought and comments sign92

Gun rhymes with fun.

We are constrained only by the rules of safety and our own imagination.

I could well be up for it :good:

You need to check the 'bring a friend' part as I suspect it would officially be a guest day and as such the local police would have to be notified yada yada. Heather/Karen will know more on this front.

Bisley rules out some of our friends up North long trip for the day, and dont you have to be a members of the NRA to shoot if not with your affiliated club...

Maybe ENS is referring to the Type 38 Arisaka's the Finns used or the the Finnish wildcat 6.5x54R? O:-)

I like the idea, distance is a problem but if I was able to get there, I'd give it a go! :good:
