Range Stew

It's going to be cold on the ranges tomorrow. It's forecast to be -7 C overnight, last week's snow is still here and more may fall afore morning. We have to be at the range for 0800 to take possession but first round down is not until 0900. MoD rules. A good enough reason for a range stew if ever there was one, and ours is bubblin' away as we speak.
Badger's Range Stew: A recipe.
Take a 1/2 pound of cow or Bambi. Drop into a very hot frying pan with a knob of butter and a teaspoon of whisky. Sear to seal.
While the meat is searing, boil a pan of water and tip in a goodly pawful of rice and an equally goodly pawful of pasta. Allow to simmer for ten minutes.
Whilst the rice and pasta are cooking, chop one large potato, two medium tomatoes, a pawful of field mushrooms and one large onion.
Drain the water from the pasta and rice.
Add the meat, potato, onion, tomatoes and mushrooms. Add another teasponn of whisky.
Simmer for 30 minutes at a very low heat.
Allow to cool to room temperature overnight.
Tomorrow morning, zap the stew for 7 minutes in the nuclear telly to reheat, then seal in a vacuum flask.
Take to the range, serve with bread and Henderson's.
