So, oomans, what do you recommend as a .22 semi-auto ? We already have a nice, very nice, Greener, single shot, falling block, take down .22LR , now we'd like to add a semi-auto to our collection. The standard answer would seem to be a Ruger 10/22, but we'd like something a little different. There's talk of a PPS 50 on another thread and that looks mighty tempting, but what else is out there? It'll be a fun gun and so although accuracy is desirable it isn't the main prerequisite. If somebody does an MG42 clone complete with snail drums, let us know.... or maybe a UZI, or an EM-2 ? How good are all those M16 clones? Or the GSG ? Can any of them zip through two hundred rounds of Gecko with nary a fault ?

I think Vince mentioned a UK Legal UZI Clone at the shot show, certainly there is one with a fake suppressor that could come here.
There are all sort of .22 clones hitting the market, some are interesting and apart from deactivated, will be the only way to shoot something close to the original in this country.

But beware,
As many of the AR clone buyers will tell you, few of the companies actually produced a 100% accurate clone, some had missing froward assist, others had a slightly different lay out etc, and not all will take after market AR parts should you be planning on customising your gun.
I think most alarmingly is the amount of people who are reporting that their guns are just not up to 1000's of rounds of abuse. Parts breaking is a common complaint and sourcing spares is time consuming not to mention worrying. Once a gun breaks many people lose confidence in them and pass them on.
Having handled or spoken to people who handled, many of the current clones, I have drawn the conclusion that unless you spend near £2000 for a Lantac or maybe a Spikes (jury out) it is not worth buying one.
(The SIG being a possible exception, but to my eye not cosmetically pleasing)

I am a big fan of the 10/22 system and mine saw several changes before I sold it as a comp ready race gun. Spares are easily sourced and there are any number of friends and shooters who know them inside out should you ever need help.

I recommend that whatever you look at buying, make sure that you take it apart and look at the internals, the quality of parts used and the quality of the barrel. Make sure there is a warranty and that you can get basic parts easily, not to mention shooting it to check accuracy is up to required levels,
