Having a wee debate with a mate over which is the most prolific weapon used by baddies today.

OK, so apart from the ubiquitous AK 47, what else does the modern raghead / baddie / terrorist/ despot about town seem to use these days.

Anyone from the forces maybe care to shed a light..could be rifle, pistol or AR whatever..anyone? IED's and MRE's don't count, we were talking fireams.

Depends where you are, some parts have a lot of .303's in the hands of the bad guys.

Other than the RPG and dragunov, i'd say probably the Enfield. It's amazing how many keep the Enfield at home for vermin control and protection.

Although not 'bad' as such the rebels in Libya seemed to have a lot of FN FALs.

New weapon of choice in South Africa last few years was the Z88 ( aka Beretta 92F) and the R4 (Galil copy in .223)
Mostly stolen from the cops or rented from cops :G

Do the baddies of today have "AK47s", aren't most of them AKMs? The true AK47 only had a very short production run, later, I think early 50s, it was lightened and made more Russian-tractor-like, and became the AKM

Was there not some Nagants or Mausers floating about Iraq..what about Afghanistan,.I'll cheat and stick to common areas of conflict.

Quite a few Nagants around still, plenty of AK variants.

Of the news footage i've seen by far the most prolific rifle used (after AK's) is the H&K G3/Cetme, every bugger in Africa seems to have one! Lucky sods . . . :-P
