What would you wise oomans recommend as a good boar gun ? I was wondering about a .44 Magnum underlever, or maybe even a shotgun loaded with solid slugs...

.444 Marlin in a Marlin lever. A good fast lever gun with way more muzzle energy than a .44 magnum!!! Or even the venerable .45-70, again in a fast handling Marlin lever gun.

BTW from my experience with the few wild boar I've popped over the years you'd want an under lever for those fast follow up shots. You may shoot them dead but it can take a while for them to get the message.

There's been one of these at my local gun shop for a couple of years - it belonged to the owner of the shop, who said it gave him a headache after 10 shots! - I have to ignore it calling to me every time i go in there....

Seems pretty unanimous ! What's the ammunition availability like for them ? I always seem to end up with calibres that are hard to source - like 7.5x55 Swiss

Aye, but think of what it does to the pig.
Also down loaded with cast boolits it makes a fine 25yrd indoor range/gallery rifle.
What gun shop is it in please?

Don't know, but you could load them yourself? - But if being charged by 100lbs of angry pork...make sure they're good!!
