I saw a Youtube clip of Short Siberia the other day and it looked like a ploughed field, what has happened to the place? It looked fine last time I was there.

It's been improved - more realistic for the civilian service rifle boys :good:

In all seriousness it has been upgraded to allow for better usage but that involved heavy plant on the range in winter - hence the somme impersonation....

Yes alot of work going on, (big digger parked by bench rest shooters covered area) I was on the 200 S/S last Sunday. From what I could see they have put another sand bank in front of the 100yds butts mound at about 50yds with sleepers and targets, in the middle (ie between 10-20 lanes) On sunday this first target for use from 200 was 20.

Have to admit that I saw the state of people clothes when they came back from SS so haven't ventured down there to see it for myself.

It was a hideous mudbath a few weeks ago. There is still a huge amount of mud, but much of it is loose soggy stuff that has been scraped off to one side to provide a firm base. The mantlet has been upgraded to double as a stop butt. There is a concrete plinth in front to take turning targets (I estimate about 40 targets), and a sleeper wall in front of that, then an area of properly constructed drained reinforced coarse sand back to 30 metres as an all-distances firing point. Falling back from that, and still under construction, is a walkway linking it all back to the 100m firing point, with stubby 50 and 75 metre points extending across from the walkway. The old turning target facility at 50 yds on the left hand side is being completely rebuilt (it's currently a swamp with a ditch in it). Once it's finished the ground will be levelled and reseeded and will recover in time. It actually looks like it will be a really good facility. I understand it has been paid for by the Police units now making regular use of Bisley, so I imagine they will have priority, with it available to members and clubs at weekends and if they don't want it during the week - but that's just a guess, I have no official knowledge.

The carpark is worse than ever. That may also be temporary, having had diggers and dumpers driven over it while moving tons of gravel and sand.

Not sure whats going on but I'm told that the NSRA have lost 20 firing points for the summer champs in August because short range shooting will be done in Century in the week because the Civilian Nuclear Constabulary will be exclusivley using Short Siberia!

The CNC are a very important revenue stream to the NRA, if they need Siberia as long as it brings in good money for the NRA it has to be a good thing right now.

20S will the NSRA Summer championship still be going ahead as planned?
