Brattonsound Gun Safes

Not quite a gun shop but I have managed to break the lock on my Brattonsound safe, fortunately it broke in the locked position.
As it is still under warranty, I phoned up and was advised to try some "heath robinson" fixes. When this didn't work, another call 10 mins later resulted in a lock in the post and instruction to a local locksmith for a repair next week.

I have just installed my new MT7+ yesterday (xmas pressie from the wife ) in time to accomadate my 32" re-barreled Remmy next Friday :) :)

Interesting point Robin. I could insist that I am required by law to be present as once it is open, he will have access to firearms .

Getting it open will be the hard part.

Changing teh lock is a 2 minute job.

But check that you have teh right lock as there are two types. If you look at the double bitted key, end on. One type has both sides in exact alignment across the centre and the second type has one side on a direct radial out from the centre and the second on a tangent and offset. For the first, the hole in the door has a horizontal slot with a smnall circle in the centre but for teh second the two wings are at about 150 degrees.

I have one of each type so it is easy to know which key is which.

Thanks for the heads up Polchraine, I have the former I believe. Getting frustrated now as the lock hasn't arrived although I accept the weather and time of year will play a part.

We had a large Chub safe at an old workplace of mine that belonged to another company we shared the premises with. The other company closed down, the accountant left and one day we realised we had no combination for it so I called Chub.

A man with a small toolbox turned up, looked at it, had a coffee and produced a huge ball of putty which he proceeded to kneed into a ball as I watched fascinated, he produced three metal frames with pointers on stuck them to the safe with putty and adjusted them so they pointed around the tumbler. I asked if he wanted space at this stage and he replied no but it would be best not to talk to him. With that he started twiddling, he dis not write anything down nor use any fancy listening devices, just twiddled and occasionally moved a pointer and about three hours later rang me to say it was open.
