Guidance for stalking and shooting services?

As we get questions on how to start stalking and get into game shooting I was wondering if there was any guidance anywhere about making sure that tyros and indeed experts are aware of the steps to take to ensure that when looking for such things you don't end up getting ripped of.
What should you look for from people, syndicates and organisations offering such services?
What sort of guarantees, contracts are there about and what is reasonable to expect in such things?
What should you expect as a minimum?
What recourse for recompense do you have if it all goes wrong?
Are there any models of good practice that can be referenced?
Does BASC offer any guidance?
What do board members think and what experiences on this topic have you to share?
Remember Scotguns's rule applies to this!

BASC guide to stalking

Good idea to make a sticky of the official publications for reference .

Do they have anything specific about what one should look for from a shoot provider so as to help establish it suitability?

It was a few months ago I first expressed an interest in exactly this so your post comes at a good time Dromia. I am not a hunter but would like to get out and have a try and I know a couple of others have expressed an interest as well.
I have had some very kind offers of stalking already however I am certainly interested to understand more on this, especially if I enjoy the sport and look to take it further.

I've been through the BASC list Dave but could find nothing specific to the question, that was why I've asked incase I'd missed anything. There is a lot of relevant infomation on the site but it is spread across many sources and it seems to me that the specific question/need hasn't been addressed as far as I can see.
If it has then champion, point me in the direction and we'll get it posted up here.

BASC is NOT the best source of information. If interested in beginnig deer stalking then join The British Deer Society. Once joined, you'll be passed to your regional club secretary. He'll invite you to monthly shoots, informative discussion evenings, training courses covering both firearms and deer...ultimately by socialising with the other members of your club will you make the contacts and gain the knowledge you seek.
BASC tries to cover all types of shooting which has resulted in a thin representation and some significant gauffs. BASC is not well considered amongst many deer stalkers and hunters.
