Rem 700 bottom metal on ebay - sold to me

I carried out what is a regular search for Rem 700 items on eBay this morning and found someone selling a brand new drop in magazine system for £129.99 +£4.50 postage.
Needless to say I bought it before anyone else saw the sale and I look forward to fitting it to my stock, negating the need to purchase another rifle with magazine for the McQueen etc.

I have asked him if he has anymore for sale but still no reply,

You never know what is out there unless you look,

Reply from the seller:
Good evening DM
orry for the late reply, firstly let me apologise... im actually away from home until early next week. Currently away on family business, didnt even come into my mind when i started the listing. I will dispatch as soon as im back.
Yes i do have more available, i fitted one to my custom 700 with a H & S stock, it was a breeze. If you could post details then that would be brilliant, if anyone should wish to buy direct through paypal, then they can contact me at designertrader@gmail.com If bought direct then they will be £130 shipped as i will save some on ebay fees. Many thanks for your purchase & as i said i will dispatch as soon as im home.Sam

I received the bottom metal in good time and I was pleased with my purchase.

When I had time I got my Dermal and hobby file set out and started making small adjustments to my stock to try and slide the metal in. After half an hour of furious filing I came to the realisation that (a) the hole I was making was not particularly smart and (b) this needed someone with some proper tools.

Enter Ovenpaa, I made my way up to his house this morning and we / he took on the problem. All I can say is that anyone who claims that it takes a few minutes of filing to ease the metal home either had a completely different stock to the one I have (HS Precision) or gave it to someone else to do.
After around 2-3 hours we had removed roughly 5 mil of stock to enable the bolt to pick up the round. We had also to reduce the length of both fixing bolts by about the same, and at some point I will be looking to source some shorter bolts.

Just some cosmetic work to finish the project off, we are not too sure what we learnt from the project but we do know it is not a 35 min job. Should you pick up some bottom metal for your stock be prepared to employ the services of a gunsmith who has previous experience or a friend with a milling machine!

I fettled in a HS precision bottom plate into my HS precision stock.

I took my time over it and to me the trick was determining what was chaffing with what. I'm no smithy (boring accountant) by any means but I do like a challenge. The action has to be smooth and the feed sound. Same thing with the new Jewell trigger I installed...nothing must be chaffing.

The bottom metal needed letting in by some 8mm, which meant machining as it has aluminium bedding pillars, plus the front of the existing magazine well needed squaring up and then machining open by some 4mm total, it was not a difficult job but quite time consuming first time round however at least we know how to do it now.
