I’m doing a bit of research into some of the more unusual and quirky places that have or have housed firing ranges. I know of the range that was underneath the Shell Centre in London and Baker Street tube station, but there must be (or have been) plenty of others. All info welcome!

The RAC club in Pall Mall had a basement rifle range.

Interestingly, the covenants dictate it remains a rifle range!

The "Hundred House Pub" in Bromsgrove used to house the Bromsgrove club smallbore range under the bar in the cellar. Shot there a couple of times and as even at 5' 8" I had to bend down to walk under the bar room floor joists.
Seen many a shooter stand up and bang their heads.

I never went there but I understand that there was a .22 range in an old underground water tank in the western valley of Gwent (Bargoed?) up until the pistol ban.
There were several in basements under public houses and hotels in Gwent in the past. I know of two small-bore ranges beneath the stands of rugby/football clubs.

Do you know which clubs and are they still in use please?

The two that are beneath the stands of rugby/football clubs are - Torfaen rifle club beneath the grandstand of Pontypool park, and Abergavenny rifle club beneath the stand of Abergavenny Thursdays football club.

Our club is based in a very dilapidated fort on the Thames Estuary. Sadly access to it has been very limited as it's been declared unsafe in some areas. Also, they have been promised funds from the Lower Thames Crossing to refurbish it but that has led to the wildlife people getting involved as there are bats and owls using it. The bats and owls were perfectly happy while the fort was in use for open days and events but now they are an issue. This Wikipedia page is out of date. It doesn't mention that the place has been locked up for years, has parts that have collapsed and the people that had museums there have been kicked out.
