Christel wrote: Wed May 01, 2024 4:07 pm So far, £538.67.
The reason why the weird amount is because some sent money with paypal as a payment and not a gift. So paypal took their share.

Server £431.24....it was actually £425.98 however mysteriously the host took the first amount and have credited our account with the rest....
Domain £12.49, this is up for renewal in Oct 2024.
SSL £31.73..........I will look into a freebie.

Going forward I will collect money as we can't leave it this late next time, my fault.
I've used forums in the past that were donation based, and they had a quota per month to hit, with a progress bar to let everyone know when the site needed help, always there at the top of the screen. You could look into something like this.

Also, RE the costs, domain prices are pretty locked up so not a lot to be saved there, better to keep it in situ on a recurring contract to stop it being swifted away anywhere.

SSL, as mentioned, on a php/apache server, Let's Encrypt is free and does everything necessary, it can be installed to run as a cron job so auto updates the cert every 3 months.

As for the server depending on ability, or ability of dev, you could set up an AWS Lightsail Ubuntu LTS Instance of what I'm guessing is similar or slightly better specs than what the site is currently sitting on at the moment for a tad less per month cost, but wouldn't come with the cpanel you're probably used to of eukhost.

This is all making some assumptions.

Apologies for not donating personally this period, it's been a little tight trying to learn to budget with 2 little ones and a wife still on maternity. I will endeavour to donate as and when I can in the future. Full-bore is a valuable resource, even if the moderation can be a little off-putting at times...

TattooedGun,

Thank you for the tips, I agree with keeping the site where it is.

Yes, it is a valuable resource, 14 years of input. I for one cannot believe it has been that long, I guess it is true what they say, when you are having fun and all that :)

yeah i wasn't really suggesting it. tbh, not sure it even needs a tittle. does it make those that want to use the resource a lesser contributor if they haven't stumped up. do we who paid expect higher treatment?

I think "FBUK supporter" says all that is necessary.
