Henry Big Boy X bolt

So I've just bought a Henry Big Boy X in .44 mag (my first lever gun), and I wanted to remove the bolt to give it a good scrub with a rod and patch before firing it for the first time.

The instruction manual is pretty basic and gives no instructions for disassembly for normal daily cleaning, however there are several youtube videos that all show how to remove the bolt by unscrewing the lever and pulling it out in the forward position, then depressing the hammer to slide the bolt out so you can insert a cleaning rod from the breech end.

I followed these steps then reversed the process for reassembly as the videos show. However I've noticed at the rear of the bolt, the small plunger that connects to the firing pin keeps popping out of its recess when I pull the lever rearwards (see photo).
Fingers crossed somebody with a Henry Big Boy can tell me what I've done wrong?

Cheers,

Brian.

I have the Henry Big Boy (sounds like a porno stud) .45 Colt and as you can see in my picture, this is normal.
When the lever is fully home, it engages with the locking bolt, which in turn engages with the bolt. The rear firing pin (the bit you're concerned about) is in turn positioned correctly.

Is it possible you removed the retaining pin and didn't quite get the rear firing pin back into position?

It's perfectly normal 👍

It's a safety device - the firing pin is split into more than one part and only when the action is properly close will the parts all line up for firing. The Marlin 1894 and Beretta 92 also have something similar.
