Old Newby from SEKent

#1 Post by drone »

Hi, Old Codger here in the twilight of my shooting career.
Currently belong to 3 clubs and hope to be in a 4th by the end of April.
Have a couple of rimfires plus a 223, 6.5x55, 30/30 and 308, one of the rimfires is a 1947 bsa 12/15 martini that is a few years younger than I am, the other rimfire and the centre fires are hunting guns.
I reload for the centrefires and recently bought an old 30/30 mod 94 and have gotten into casting my own bullets and tbh would be quite happy to just settle on the 30/30 as my only gun.
OK it isn't blisteringly accurate but it's probably more accurate than I am.
The rifle itself is the carbine version and weighs just under 3 Kg and with suitable factory ammo recoils quite heavily, much more than my 308 for example with similar weight bullets hence the casting bug.
I like to limit my shooting at the range to 300 yards which is stretching the rimfires and 30/30 with lv cast bullets, even on a calm day, but easy peasy-ish wtf with the other 3, at least the charging infantryman targets and the electronic score system suggest I have more hits than misses, not with the rimfires I hasten to add.
I've more or less given up on stalking as, tbh, if I did harvest some fresh meat it really has to be light enough for an old boy with a heart condition to recover.
That's all history now and my present and future is focused around the rimfires and the lever gun and cast bullet reloads.

Hello and welcome to the forum

Hi and welcome.
I find as I get older that I am just happy to be out in the fields with a gun.
Actually pulling the trigger does not matter.

:D :D I'm thinking of designing a Zimmer with a rifle holster or hook for your saddle ring carbine for us oldies who still like to get out for a wander with a rifle. :squirrel:
