So just as I’m planning a .308 rebarrel, I’ve heard Sassen have gone bust?!! Anyone confirm?

That would appear to be the case.

Still a pity for a British firm to go. I hadn't used them myself, but I do know that their price for barreling was reasonable and the product was reputably good too.

I don't have any personal experience with RPA barrels. I spoke to them a few years ago at IWA and they were going to let us have one for evaluation but it never happened.
I usually use American barrels but I dread to think the cost now the the exchange rate has plummeted. For general use, there's nothing wrong with Bergara - their honed finish is as good as any but they don't tend to come in 30 inch plus lengths which many competitors need.

+1 for Bergara. We have a couple (6x47 & 6.5x47) and they're very impressive. We got them when they first became available, the max blank length was 28".
At £200 each for the blanks, they really were a no-brainer.

Yes, they do most popular calibres. Fox Firearms keep a comprehensive stock.
