Aperture Sights On A CZ527 ?

Noticed aperture sights seem quite popular on these rifles in the US. I think Parker Hale used to make their PH16 sight to fit the ZKW 465, but they don't seem to turn up often these days. Is anyone shooting a Cz527 with aperture sights. Neither of my rifles have a front sight, so that would be another hurdle. I wonder if there is a universal fitment available. I think they used to do reamable slip on bases for the Matchmaker foresight.
As Iremember the older Cz527 foresights were soldered on, I wonder if the later models were screw detachable, as the rifles came pre-threaded from the factory.

I like appeture sights for practice and have had a couple up back on my .22lrs

You have a few options:

1) Weaver Rail:

XS and New England Custom Gun make peep sights that fit on a Weaver Rail

NECG Weaver: https://www.newenglandcustomgun.com/pro ... ?prod=4200 (https://www.brownells.co.uk/RIFLE-WEAVE ... -661000035)
Skinner: https://xssights.com/products/weaver-ba ... ights.html (https://www.brownells.co.uk/BERETTA-ARX ... -006105000)

The NECG is a lot chuckier option but is much more finely adjustable. XS is somewhat daintier but less adjustable.

2) Fitting to dovetails.

Skinner: http://www.skinnersights.com/cz_rifles_24.html
NECG: https://www.newenglandcustomgun.com/pro ... ?prod=5933

Apertures: Easiest to get Apertures for are the Skinners (And Skinner will send you stuff direct from the US. XS and NEGC are a bit trickier but you can get them here).

XS make aperture stems which are threaded so you can change the size of the aperture insert but getting them in the UK is difficult as Brownells UK won't get one for your and XS haven't got their license to export yet.

NECG Also do different apertures I think but I haven't felt the need to change so haven't looked into it I'm afraid.

Front Sights

I reckon the most flexible option is to put in a 3/8" dovetail so you can swap out front sights (You have a lot of choice with 3/8 dovetail front sights).

You can get a front ramp from someone like Williams but can be fiddly to fit robustly. You can also get a "collar" fitted which apparently are easier to make robust and will take a front sight dovetail

You can get ramps and front sights via Brownells, Marlinspares.com and Skinner will sell you a variety of front sights and other useful things as well as rear sights.

I've not done a 527 but done a couple of my CZ / Brno 452 / Model 2s.

I shall pop some pictures up.

Advice from Skinner on choosing front ramp height and post:

"The Shorty Ramp is a super choice, with so many dovetailed front sights to choose from.
It sounds laughable, but cinching a black zip tie to that barrel with the tail bent/oriented sticking straight up to use as a front sight will tell you how high overall a front sight/ramp combination needs to be to zero with our rear sight.
Just keep clipping a bit more off the top end with nippers in between shootings until your elevation is correct/zeroed, then measure the height from top of the barrel arc to the top end of the zip tie. Fine tuning can be done with the rear sight once the new ramp/front combo is in place and correct within .025” or so.
Most dovetailed front sights look best between .350-.400” to about .500” when in a ramp, so knowing the overall height will tell you which height ramp will match up with a .350- .500” front sight to be correct overall.
Shooting @ 25-50 meters is best.
Thank You for checking in!

Pictures of a couple of the Aperture Sights:

And a comparison with the XS Weaver back up sight (Low)

(Apologies NEGC upside down, only way could get a photo side by side without it being really ham fisted)

What I hope is clear is how chunky and heavy the NECG is (Feels solid and pretty repeatable though).

The XS and NECG rear are both windage adjustable but it involves screws and allen keys.

The elevation on the NECG is a single screw with marks so a bit finer adjustment. The XS is 1/2 turns of the sight stem so a bit coarser.

Many thanks and much appreciated.

The CZ527 has just made it onto my first centrefire rifle (.223) shortlist and even though its very early days of deciding which discipline I'll prefer, was I just wondering about aperture vs scope options etc.

I have a CZ527 .223 - It shoots very well and quite competitive out to 600 yds. Cheap and plentiful ammunition, cheap and plentiful components if you want to reload.

I also make a nice single shot adapter with controlled feed for the 527 .223 too.

No probs!

I'll try and take some pictures of the front sights.
