You SHOULD be ok, but it may be worth pinging Tikka an email asking... Some manufacturers (like Mossberg) state in the owners manual that you can use .223 or 5.56 (and 7.62 in their .308s)

I've just checked the T3 owners manual, and it just says to use the correct ammo as stamped on the barrel.. email Tikka..

There doesn't appear to be a way to directly contact Tikka / Sako. They direct you through their distributors.

I need to double check what is stamped on the barrel when I get back home.

Thanks

Has there ever been a documented case where using 5.56x45mm in a .223Rem has caused a failure of the barrel in a modern firearm?

Not in a bolt gun.... there are documented cases (in the US, unsurprisingly!) of .223 AR's going pop if fed 5.56 milsurp...but that could be down to anything, not the ammo...

The match 77gn stuff has "223" on the cartridge, I guess the 69gn has similar. The FMJ is marked on the box as "5.56x45NATO" and the cartridge head has "5.56".

ETA:
I notice the 77gn match bullet has changed from Sierra to Nosler. It seemed to shoot well when I tried some last weekend.
Arming the Country, one gun at a time.

Good deals with Paul101, Charlotte the flyer, majordisorder, Charlie Muggins, among others. Thanks everybody.

Thanks for the info folks. Rounds I have are marked 5.56 on the cartridge head.Think for now I’ll run some 223 Federal through the gun to see how it groups. I’ll keep the 5.56 to one side until I decide what to do with it.

do not know how accurate this is, but i was always told that due to the GGG being military grade the cartridge walls are thicker and this effects the pressure in the round.... may be crap but that is what i was told.... I have a Wylde chamber so can shoot both?
