8mm Lebel

I was looking for something and found this at the back of the ammo cabinet. It was an 8mm Lebel round that had failed to fire. I decided to take it apart out of idle curiosity. It contained 42.4 grains of a square flake powder and a bullet that weighs 234.5 grains and is .326 in diameter. The bullet sticks to a magnet. A good few years ago I bought some 8mm Lebel surplus ammo from Henry Krank. There were two different head stamps, this one with CP and others with SF. The CP ones were a bit of fire, hang fire or not fire at all. The SF ammo all went off normally. I got some loose and some in the machine gun strips. I probably have 20 or 30 rounds of the fail to fire CP rounds. I still have quite a bit of the ammo left so I suppose I should shoot some more of it.

As you have reportedly already fired some without issue, I assume your rifle has been converted to fire `Balle N` and has N stamped on the receiver and chamber.

Yes, it is berdan primed ammunition.
Yes, my Berthier 1907/15 has the N stamp on the receiver and chamber. I also have an 1892 carbine that is N stamped but I value my shoulder too much to fire Balle N in that little light rifle.
