Is the Lee lead hardness tester any good is it worth buying. What are you guys using to work out your alloys for casting for full bore rifle and underlevers. I don't do black powder.

I had a Saeco hardness tester for years - I reckon I used it twice!

Scratch that one then.

Full bore twice a month at Catterick. 25 yard indoors at my local range ten minutes from my front door five nights a week plus Saturday and Sunday mornings. 30 yard outdoor range 20 minutes from front door seven days a week dawn till dusk. Clays every third Saturday in the month 20 minutes from my front door.

Not a lot in comparison when you spend the rest of your time shopping.

I have had and used the following testers, Saeco worked fine but the gap on the instrument means that you can only test bullets not ingots, Lead Bullet Technology works find but hard to get now. My go to and best of all the testers is the Cabine Tree it also comes equipped to measure run out. The Lee will do the job but it is a real pain to use, it uses a magnfying lens to help you read the calibrations, enough said.

The best of all tester is a concrete floor, when dropping an ingot on it it should go thud any ring to it and it is too hard.

As cast bullet shooters we need a softness not a hardness tester as hard bullets have no place when looking for good, consistent, accurate loads.

Soft bullets good.
Hard bullets bad.

Mind you with the forthcoming lead ban all this will soon be irrelevant.

Think of all that extra shopping time you will have Dave when you won't be able to shoot.

Yes the proposed lead ban is not good at least we have managed to have some fun with our shooting over the years to look back on.

60 years shooting is NOT enough for me!
