I was browsing round our local auction house this morning an came across this set of callipers. Made be Elliot Bros, London between 1873-1910. They are beautifully made Vernier callipers in excellent condition in fitted wooden box. There is a set the same as this in the London Science museum. Estimate between £30-50. Think I might have punt on these (Imperial of course)

Callipers went for £60 this morning but not to me. I did pick up a nice little lab balance for £20 though.

Nice bargain - even if you only have it sitting on display.

My school had a large number of them and as far as I know, they were dumped!

I have these, currently living at work as I don't have much need at home. Box is falling apart.

The Digitronic are still a M&W product ...

The other larger, what look to be Swiss made are potentially a collectible item, especially as they are 50cm/20"

good eye! yeah there is a swiss cross on them. sure my name elctro'pencilled on would polish off. might have to see what sort of price they fetch and let work buy their own

I have a set of those 20" calipers in the original box they are like new. Thy have been sitting on a shelf in my Shed for over 20 years.
I also know were several of those Balances are they are in a Lab that's been disused for over 25 years and the whole Lab is under lock and key. No longer in use.
