Blaser straight pull

We had a chat with a chap shooting a Blaser R8 end of last week and I must admit I was very impressed, the straight pull action is very similar to operating a normal bolt but you just slide it back instead of lift and slide. The action was slick and very fast and had a very nice safety system built in so it can be carried across your back loaded with complete safety.
Add to this Blaser's reputation for build quality and accuracy and it could be a winner, my only concern is the breech internals seemed quite fiddly and I am not sure how it would fare in wet dirty conditions.
Anyone tried one or got any views on them?

I was very impressed with what I saw however it also crossed my mind what wet weather and dirty conditions would do to that action.
Slick is an understatement.

Schmidt Rubin, Steyr and Ross for example all produced very effective straight pulls so there is no reason why someone else shouldn't be able to do it.
I've seen a few recumbent Match rifles based on the Schmidt Rubin action, there is also a very nice one in "Streets of Laredo" from the "Lonesome Dove" series.
If I ever come across a decent Ross sporter in .280" Ross or .303" British then I would buy it and shoot deer withit without any qualms.
Nowt wrong with straight pulls.
I always thought Blaser was a type of jacket as part of the NRA uniform?

As it's a hunting rifle I would have thought it would have to be pretty reliable in all conditions.

Do Blaser rifles not have some fancy gizmo to turn on the reticle on your Swarovski scope???

I took a good look at these but at that price you are in the market area for a custom gun so why not have EXACTLY what you want for just a little more?

My point exactly... I would rather push the finances just that little bit further and get my 'spec' built.... also wonder what it would cost if the 'wonder-action' crapped-out? Who really needs a lightening-fast bolt cycle?
