The evening was held on the 27th December 2021 at 19:30 and 20 people turned up, with 10 being new to the sport. There was a good mix of sexes, ages and experience and I'm sure that everyone enjoyed themselves. The bell was rung on several occasions, not only by the old hands. Indeed one newcomer scored 24.4, with the first four shots ringing the bell! The winning score was 25.3. A few photos of the evening are attached

Dave Carter, the County Development Officer, in conjunction with Graham Myers, organised the evening. Graham is hoping to set regular evenings of Bell Shooting at The Red Lion, with a team to be established to compete in the Lincolnshire league.

A few words from Dave Carter

Bell target is an old pub sport dating back to around 1905 at one time there were 4000 teams with 1600 of those teams in Birmingham, the object of the exercise is to get a pellet to hit a four-inch plate from eighteen feet, standing, for a bonus point if you get the pellet through the 3/8” hole you ring the bell and get an extra point
Bell Target was started in Lincolnshire as one of several initiatives to promote shooting to a wider audience and to get none shooters into the sport, the sport is mainly carried out in public houses it also has the benefit of bringing twenty people into our many rural pubs on quiet nights during the week, the first two pubs were the Heneage Arms and White Hart, as we are all aware covid has disrupted many things along with Bell Target, but I am pleased to say that the number of venues keeps growing and we now have nine pubs taking part in the sport.
Prior to lock down we did have a league and county championship which we hope to be able to reintroduce once the regulations have some certainty, has it been a success? I would say yes, we have approximately one hundred and eighty people on the books and approximately eighty percent of those were either lapsed shooters or none shooters, we have had support from the local press BBC Radio Lincolnshire, and Lincoln City Radio which has assisted us to promote the sport to none shooters and encourage them to have a go.

Thank you for that, looks like there may be some converts.

This is one of the best shooting initiatives I have seen in many a year.

Well done to all concerned.
