Tried various sizes down to 150 px wide. Are these not supported now? (even though the button to insert an img link still remains in the editor and the img tag is recognised)?

Here's an example:

...or is it a cross-site or mixed TLS/non-TLS issue?

First image of the boats is uploaded, second of the rifle is a link. Works fine from our end, maybe as you mentioned the hand shake is not working.

Seems that even if the <img> tag contains a http url, some browsers (chrome,Brave) appear to request using https (presumably if the referring page is https). Even though the image is returned with a 200 (ok) status, if there's a certificate mismatch the image appears as missing (but right-click the 'missing image' and open in new tab and it displays fine). I.E. and Firefox seem to display it fine within the original page. Could also be due to 'tracking image' privacy settings, I guess.

Bottom line; image needs to be accessible via https with valid certificate even if linked by http in order to reliably work on all browsers/configs.

Thanks, and Happy New Year :)

The above makes sense, although I had not thought of it tbh :)

HNY indeed.
