DaveB wrote: Sat Jan 01, 2022 10:32 pm The Remington 700 SPS Tactical is a good choice - 20 inch barrel in a 1-in-9 twist in the .223 chambering. I have the same rifle in .308 Win. I would recommend however that you look at changing out the trigger - my favourite is from Trigger Tech. Well worth the price.
Agreed, I have a Trigger Tech trigger in mine and well worth purchasing.

700 Police in .223 with 1-9" - Rifle Basix Trigger and had the stock inletted for an AICS Bottom metal for detachable mags.

As above with 69gr SMK's it really is a tack driver.

Well in spirit, the action is about all that remains.. I had it re-barrelled and it now sits in a Gemini stock... I lovingly call it Triggers Broom.

Every time I look at that picture I shake my head and kick myself..

Its the tier one Spartan 3 - I can;t remember if this was in Over Barrel configuration or on end of barrel - but the mod can do both - I think it's long since been superseded by new designs.

Also have a Wildcat Panther 12 for this rifle which it seems to group better with on, but the T1 sounds better... wtf

I would suggest a 1:8" over a 1:9" as it will take the 80gn+ bullets and then you can get further, we were shooting 80SMKs at 900 and 80JLKs at 1000yds last week - always a challenge but easier with the big bullets.
1:9" just doesn't always stabilise the 80s but the 1:8" will and also shoot the 77s and lighter bullets even the light hunting bullets (despite the internet myths about spin destruction and over stabilisation in a 223). Gives you more options should you want it later.
