Drat!

Today it was an open day and i let a potential new member have a go with my Winchester first then K98.He admitted to not having shot anything before so i suggested he use my (homemade) rifle rest to make life easier with the K98 as its heavier.

He kept moving the rifle backwards slightly to get comfortable and i kept having to correct him,but on one shot he did it while pulling the trigger which resulted in my (homemade) rifle rest being hit by the muzzle blast. In a split second there were hundreds of tiny bits of fabric in the air!

Dont get me wrong,it didnt cost me a penny (its just a cool bag with old t-shirts folded up inside),but found it to be perfect for shooting as you can karate chop a groove into it and can be used either side for different heights.Looks like a gaffer tape repair jobbie.

Nice idea for supporting service rifles. I was using a cheapie axle stand and beanie hat in Denmark, they have loads on the 25/50m for the youngsters when they start of with .22LR.

Alternatively Rifleman has some rather tasty ones for sale as well.

Axle stands??? Never seen one of them being used as a rest before! Pikeys would nick them in a blink of an eye here though.

The chap who shot my rifle hadnt shot anything before so in the intrests of safety i thought it best to have the rifle rested.

Oh and i dont have a sling on the K98...
