How many cases do you need?

Things sometimes take a while to dawn on me and this one came to me this morning whilst cleaning some cases.

How many do I actually need?
I have somewhere between 4-500 MEN cases that I saved up whilst shooting HPS ammunition, and another 200 that I bought new from John.
Up until very recently I have been planning on working my way through them getting them all fire formed to this chamber.
What has dawned on me is that if I was to get 10 uses out of each case, that would be equivalent to 7000 rounds down the barrel, which I am sure will be considered by most to be a far beyond what is expected for a F Class barrel (it's not a military barrel).

For the last two shoots I have been concentrating on 200 cases trying to get the best ones and using them. For the week ahead I should be using between 200-300 rounds including practise yesterday.
So there is my answer, I only needed 300 cases and for most shoots I could pick the 100 most consistent and use them.

Perhaps for the next barrel I will buy 200 premium cases and start again, comfortable in the knowledge that I don't need so many of the things,

DM - With my new barrel for F/TR, I bought a box of 100 Lapua cases. Most GBFCA League shoots - with the possible exception of the Europeans - are less than 100 rounds.

Running the loads at over 3000 fps with Vit 540, I was getting about four re-loads before the primer-pockets were loose. Now, I've stepped back to Vit 140 at 2975fps and I'm looking for six re-loads. At around £50 per 100, that's good value.

Remember 'nothing shoots like new brass!' Always use the best and change it as often as you can afford.
