Meplat trimming

#1 Post by Alpha1 »

Hi, I need a meplat trimmer anyone using one any recommendations where to get one or how to make one. It needs to be cheap I won't be using it long term. I am not interested in pointing systems it definitely needs to be a meplat trimmer.

I started off with a Tubbs system but it was not really doing what I wanted, so I made my own which was a vast improvement. They are easy enough to make and I used an 8mm end mill as the cutter with it offset to the central axis and it worked fine. So well in fact that I never bothered again, gave it away and designed a pointing system that negated the need for a trimmer.

I probably have my original sketch with dimensions if you are interested in making your own.

I made one to work with my L.E.Wilson trimmer.

Google came to the rescue. :D .

Oh damn, it doesn't work. It won't work with the original Wilson cutter now I know why Ovenpaa used an 8mm end mill. I probably have an 8mm end mill I will check tomorrow. Or I might just go to plan B and stick it in a collet and trim the Meplat that way.
