This is a Toyo Kogyo series 34 Type 99 Arisaka 7.7x58mm rifle. This rifle was produced in late 1944. It shows the shortcuts in production from the early manufactured rifles produced before Japan was at war with the USA and us. The anti aircraft arms are missing from the rear sight, the front sight has the ears omitted, the monopod has gone, the rear sight swivel is secured with one screw and not two and the butt plate is wood and secured with three nails. It still shoots though and I do shoot it from time to time.

Some more pics.
I meant sling swivel, not sight swivel in above post.

Great pictures & rifle.

Toyo Kogyo is now Masda the factory was in Hiroshima.
Is the palm safety knurled or crudely welded as they were later?
I have one a couple of years earlier by the same maker.

The palm safety is smooth welded, no knurling done on this one.
